Summer @ Steiner

swimming in pool The Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School Summer Program offers a Waldorf inspired summer day program for children entering grades Kindergarten - 8. Each day begins with a lively circle of singing, dancing and fun. Activities include outdoor games, craft-making, pool swimming lessons and play, Green River exploration and horseback riding lessons. These are complemented by all-day field trips to a local lake for swimming, hiking and picniking. Head counselors are adults experienced in working with groups of children, who have the support of an assistant counselor.

Players
The easy-paced day of the Kindergartener (Kindergarten age 4 + in fall '08) begins with a circle of song, verse and imagination. In many ways a summer version of our Early Childhood Program, a typical summer day may proceed with snack preparation, a craft activity, structured outdoor play, lunch with rest, supervised pool time, river walks, story time and quiet, creative indoor play.

Discoverers
The average week of a first and second grader (Grades 1-2 in fall '08) starts with a daily circle of song and dance, and proceeds with a crafts project, watercolor painting, outdoor games, pool swim with lessons, river exploration, horseback riding, special events and a full-day trip to the lake for picnicking, swimming and beach fun.

Adventurers *
In addition to the full schedule of the Discovers, the third through fifth graders (Grades 3-5 in fall '08) in the Adventurers Program also experience a recreational outing or an informative field trip to a local place of interest in and around the Berkshires. One day a week, the Adventurers also join their fellow grade-schoolers at the lake.

summer camp Explorers *
This increasingly popular program for middle-schoolers (Grades 6-8 in fall '08) offers an active, on-the-go week of many outdoor challenges such as biking, hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, sports/games, pool swim with lesson, river tubing and the exploration of little know "wonders of the Berkshires". Regardless of weeks enrolled, each Explorer is invited to our end of summer overnight campout. Continuing this year is the addition of our friends from the Munich Waldorf School as German exchange campers. Participation in the Explorers requires moderate endurance and biking skills.

* These programs may require an additional fee for special events.
