In a gesture of thanks for the education she received here in Bob Norris’ Class of ’98, Susanna Giles will perform a recital at the school on Sunday, December 20th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Beginning her cello studies at the age of 9, Susanna graduated from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music receiving a Bachelor of Music in cello performance in May of 2006. She also holds a Performance Certificate degree from SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music, and attended the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music for graduate studies. She is currently pursuing a Master’s of Music degree at the Arizona State University School of Music and teaches private lessons in the Phoenix area. There is no charge; however donations will be accepted at the door to support tuition assistance for children of our alumni.

Sip, sing, shop, savor, swing and support at FIZZ!…a holiday fundraiser for the Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School, Sunday, Dec. 13th from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at 214 Egremont Plain Road. Along with bubbly refreshment to drink, scrumptious edibles donated by Local 111 will be available to nosh on. The Hoozatonix (Eric & Nico Hernandes, Zephyr & Kaylo Maliki and Cyrus Burns) and a demonstration by Swing dancers Nadia & Paul Rix will entertain you, while shopping for those on your holiday gift list at Silver Twist Jewelry, Lorimer Burns Pottery, Asia Luna Soap & Scrubs and Pooja’s Petals Chocolate. 25% of the proceeds of this event will support tuition assistance at the school.
Dec 12, Puppet Plays & Gingerbread
The Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School, Matrushka and The Chef’s Shop join together to bring you a morning of festive entertainment for your children on Saturday, December 12. The early childhood teachers will delight audiences with two performances of the puppet play “The Gingerbread Man” at 10:00 and 10:30 a.m. at Matrushka. Children are then welcomed to come to The Chef’s Shop at 11:00 and 11:30 to decorate a gingerbread man cookie. This program is sponsored by the Enrollment Committee of the Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School. There is no charge but space is limited.
Dec 9, Great Barrington Holiday Stroll
Join the faculty and staff of the Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School, as we herald the holiday season in song at the Holiday Shopping Stroll in downtown Great Barrington on Wednesday, December 9 from 5 until 8 p.m. This event, sponsored by the Southern Berkshire Chamber of Commerce, includes caroling throughout the downtown area, cider and cookies and the lighting of the town tree and Gazebo at 6:30 p.m. Area merchants are also offering special discounts to shoppers, in an effort to encourage people to buy locally to keep our economy healthy. Parents and children wishing to carol with the school are asked to meet in the Bank North parking lot at 5:45 p.m.
Nov 25, Thanksgiving Assembly
On November 25, our students will be participating in our annual Thanksgiving Assembly, which is traditionally exceptional! Each of the grades presents work they are doing in class. This is a perfect opportunity to invite prospective families to the school to give them a lively and informative introduction to Waldorf education. We suggest you arrive at 10:45 a.m. for the assembly, which begins at 11:00 a.m.
Parents: Remember that students are required to wear assembly dress. Students are also asked to bring a non-perishable food item to contribute to the Great Barrington Food Pantry.
Nov 25, Pre-Assembly Gathering
Pre-Assembly Gathering – Wednesday, November 25 at 10 a.m. in the library. This is primarily for current kindergarten parents whose children are eligible for 1st grade in September, 2010. Other early childhood parents interested in the elementary school are encouraged to come also. The program will consist of a brief welcome and introduction to the elementary grades by Marilyn Ruppart, refreshments and reserved seating for attendees at the 11 a.m. Thanksgiving Assembly.
